Findsong 5.0 Text Document
Findsong is a simple text searching program that searches for specified
text throughout an indexed database. Version 5.0 has more than 3800 entries,
an allows 3 seaching methods.
TO BEGIN:
Type FS , and press <ENTER> or <RETURN>.
The title screen will then appear, and request that you press <ENTER>.
Please read the title screen, where it explains in detail the legal
rights you have to use this software.
SEARCHING METHODS:
There are three different ways you may choose to search out data. They are
by Song Artist, Song Title, or "word scan". Each method utilizes the indexes
when searching for data. Older versions of Findsong searched for data
in one large file. With the indexes, Findsong can quickly search out data.
(Findsong is recommended to be executed from a hard drive, or RAM drive to
also help speed up the searching process.)
SEARCHING BY ARTIST
This choice is as simple as it sounds. You may simply enter an Artist's
name, or just the beginning of the name. Example, if the artist you
were looking for was named John Doe, you could search for JOHN, JOHN D,
or the full name, JOHN DOE. (REMEMBER: Always use capitals).
When matching entries are found, they will be displayed. The computer
will pause if too many entries are displayed at once. Simply press a
key to continue. During a search, you may press Q at any time to QUIT
the search.
SEARCHING BY SONG TITLE
This method is used to search out a song title. For instance, if you
heard a song on the radio titled, "A LONG WAY FROM HOME", you might
want to know who sings it. You can search by any of the following,
A LONG WAY, A LONG WAY FROM, or A LONG WAY FROM HOME. Any entries
that match your search key, will be displayed.
SEARCHING FOR TEXT (WORD SCAN)
This feature allows you to search all the songs in the database that
contain specific words or phrases. Example, if you wanted all the songs
containing the word HATE or LOVE, you would use this feature.
NOTE: Spaces in your entry make a difference. For instance, if you
were searching out HATE, with no spaces on either sides, songs with
the word WHATEVER will appear, because HATE is within WHATEVER. Spaces
however, should not be placed at the left of your entry, where if your
word was the first in a song, it would be skipped.
QUIT
Through out most of the program the Q key should QUIT or back out of a
search. The Q key is also the choice to quit the program.
REGISTRATION
If you use this program for more that the 30 trial period, you are
required to pay the $10 registration FEE. FREE REGISTERED VERSIONS
are available to those who register via Maine On Line BBS 1(207)854-0954.
ERRORS
Some spelling errors may be found, since several people "keyed" in the
data and many didn't know how to spell artists that they didn't even
know.
With each database upgrade you'll find some previous errors corrected.
CREDIT
I want to thank everyone that helped out with the search for "data";
that would include John Nicholas, Dean Wellman, Jennifer Cummings,
Shannon Fickett, and TV & radio.
I would like to thank Dave Visti for creating ASIC, the compiler and
and language that I used to create FINDSONG.COM.
I would like to thank Frank LaRosa for creating Searchlight BBS.
Searchlight is being used at Maine On Line, the official FindSong
support BBS.
I would like to thank Lotus Corp, for developing LotusWorks 1.0, which
was used to make the "real" song database.
I would like to thank Microsoft, for creating the MS-DOS Editor,
which was used to create this file and the BAT file.
And I would like to thank everyone else who was involved with this
program and its creation.
